Chocolate Loaf Cake
Ingredients
- 1 ¾ cups (220g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- ⅓ cup (35g) cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup (240ml) milk
- ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup (175g) chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat & prep
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C)
- Grease and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan
2. Mix dry ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together:
- flour
- sugar
- cocoa powder
- baking powder
- baking soda
- salt
3. Add wet ingredients
Add to the dry mix:
- eggs
- milk
- vegetable oil
- vanilla extract
Mix until just combined (don’t overmix).
4. Add chocolate chips (optional)
Fold in chocolate chips if using.
5. Bake
- Pour batter into prepared loaf pan
- Bake 45–55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean
- Cool in pan 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely
Optional Glaze
Mix together:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tbsp milk
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
Drizzle over cooled cake.
Tips
- For extra moist cake, substitute ½ cup milk + ½ cup sour cream
- Add a teaspoon of espresso powder for deeper chocolate flavor ☕
