Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls are crispy, golden egg rolls stuffed with tender steak, sautéed peppers and onions, and melted cheese. Perfect as an appetizer or party snack.
Ingredients (makes ~8 egg rolls)
-
1/2 lb (225 g) thinly sliced steak (ribeye, sirloin, or flank steak)
-
1 small green bell pepper, thinly sliced
-
1 small onion, thinly sliced
-
1/2 teaspoon salt
-
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
-
1 teaspoon garlic powder or 1 clove garlic, minced
-
1 cup shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese
-
8 egg roll wrappers
-
2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for cooking filling)
-
Oil for frying (canola or vegetable)
-
Optional: ketchup, hot sauce, or cheese sauce for dipping
Directions
Step 1: Cook the Filling
-
Heat 2 tablespoons vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
-
Add sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté for 3–4 minutes until softened.
-
Add the sliced steak, salt, pepper, and garlic. Cook for 3–5 minutes until the steak is cooked through and no longer pink.
-
Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
-
Stir in shredded cheese while the mixture is still warm so it melts slightly.
Step 2: Assemble the Egg Rolls
-
Lay one egg roll wrapper on a clean surface with a corner pointing toward you (diamond shape).
-
Spoon 2–3 tablespoons of the filling onto the bottom third of the wrapper.
-
Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in the sides.
-
Roll tightly toward the top corner and seal the edge with a little water. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.
Step 3: Fry the Egg Rolls
Option 1: Deep Frying
-
Heat oil in a deep fryer or large skillet to 350°F (175°C).
-
Fry egg rolls in batches for 3–5 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy.
-
Drain on paper towels.
Option 2: Oven-Baking (Healthier Option)
-
Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
Brush egg rolls lightly with oil and bake for 15–20 minutes, turning halfway, until golden and crisp.
Step 4: Serve
-
Serve warm with ketchup, hot sauce, or cheese sauce for dipping.
These egg rolls are crispy on the outside, cheesy and savory on the inside, and make a perfect appetizer, snack, or game-day treat.
I can also provide a version with a caramelized onion and mushroom filling to make it extra close to classic Philly Cheesesteak flavor.
